Body

– According to the Semitic mentality, body and soul act together constituting the person. See the vital breath of God in man’s body to make him a living being:

Gen 2:7 : So the Lord God formed man from the clay of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.

Gen 3:19 : In the sweat of your face you shall eat your bread, until you return to the land from which you were taken.

Wis 15,8 : From the same clay, he also forms, like a wicked worker.

Ecclesiastes 12 :7 : And before the breath of life returns to God who gave it.

Eclo 17,1-2 : God created man from the earth, he formed him according to his own image.

– In the NT body is often considered the materiality of being:

1Cor 6,18 : Any other sin that man commits is outside the body, but the unclean sins against his own body.

1Cor 7,4 : A woman cannot dispose of her body: it belongs to her husband.

Rom 1:24 : Gave them over to filthiness in their hearts’ desires, so that they dishonored their bodies among themselves.

Rom 6:6: We know that our old man was crucified with him, so that the body might be rendered powerless.

Romans 8:13 : Indeed, if you live according to the flesh, you will die.

– The Christian must praise God with his body and offer it as a sacrifice, because, through baptism, he becomes a temple of the Holy Spirit:

1Cor 6,13-20 : Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who dwells in you?

– God made him, takes care of him and will raise him up:

Mt 10:28 : Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.

Lk 12:22 : Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor with your body.

1Cor 6,13 : The body, however, is not for impurity, but for the Lord and the Lord for the body.

1Cor 15,35-50 : But, someone will say, how are the dead raised? And with what body do they come?
