Charisma

– It is an extraordinary gift freely given by God for the benefit of the community.

Acts 2:38 : And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Rom 12:6 : We have different gifts, according to the grace conferred on us.

1Cor 12-13 : But one and the same Spirit distributes all these gifts, apportioning to each one as he pleases.

Eph 4:11 : To some he appointed apostles; to others, prophets; to others, evangelists, pastors, doctors.

– In the AT, prophetic inspiration was considered charisma:

Num 11:26 : And the spirit also rested on them, […]; and they prophesied in the camp.

2Kings 3:15 : As soon as the player made the strings vibrate, the hand of the Lord came upon Elisha.

Ezekiel 3:12 : Then the spirit took hold of me, and I heard behind me a rumble of violent rumbling.

– In the NT, prophecy is also a gift of the Holy Spirit:

Acts 11:27 : In those days some prophets went down from Jerusalem to Antioch.

Acts 15:32 : Judas and Silas, who were also prophets, addressed many words of exhortation and encouragement to the brothers.

Acts 21:10-11 : We had been there for a few days, when a prophet named Agabus arrived from Judea.

Jl 3,1 : I will pour out my Spirit on every living being: your sons and your daughters shall prophesy.

– Also speaking in tongues:

Acts 2 :4 : They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues.

Acts 10:44-46 : The gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on the Gentiles.

1Cor 14,1-2 : Also aspire to spiritual gifts, but above all to prophecy.

1Th 5,19-20 : Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise the prophecies.

– Paul experienced the charisms:

1Cor 1,7 : So, while you wait for the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ, you lack no gift.

1Cor 2,4 : My word and my preaching […] were rather a demonstration of the Spirit and divine power.

1Cor 12,1-2.18 : Regarding spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to live in ignorance.

1Cor 13 : Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels.

1Cor 14,18 : Thank God that I have the gift of tongues superior to all of you.

2Cor 12,1-10 : Does it matter that I boast? In fact, it doesn’t! I will pass, however, to the visions and revelations of the Lord.

1Th 1,5 : Our Gospel was preached to you not only in word, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit.
