Day

– God separated the light from the darkness. He called the light “day” and the darkness “night”:

Gen 1,4-5 : God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day” and the darkness “night”.

– Thus begins the account of creation in the book of Genesis. Both day and night are created by the Lord:

Ps 73:16 : Yours is the day, yours is the night: you created the moon and the sun.

– From then on, alternate days and nights:

Gen 1,8,13,14,19,23,31 : Evening came and then morning: it was the second day.

Gen 2:2 : On the seventh day, when God finished his work, he rested from his work.

Gen 8:22 : Sowing and reaping, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will cease no more.

– It is recommended to keep the rest day:

Gen 2:2 : On the seventh day, when God finished his work, he rested from his work.

– It has the meaning of duration of a person’s life:

Ps 89,9 : Before your wrath, all our days passed away. Our years dissipated like a breath.

Ps 90:16 : Long days will favor him, and I will show him my salvation.

– You can also indicate a time:

Ex 2,11 : Moses grew up. One day when he happened to go out to join his brothers.

Ps 49:15 : Call upon me in the days of trouble, and I will deliver you and you will give me glory.

– In the NT, along with the indication of time, it designates an opportune time for the conversion of the heart to the Lord:

Mt 6:34 : So do not worry about tomorrow: tomorrow will have its own worries.

Lc 19,42 : If you too, at least on this day that is given to you, knew what can bring you peace!

Jn 8:56 : Abraham, your father, rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day.

– Indicates the final destiny of the human being and the world:
