Fornication

– The word expresses both simple fornication and adultery. It is infamy that provokes the wrath of God:

Deut 22:21 : The inhabitants of her city will stone her to death, because she has committed an infamy.

Pr 23:27 : For the harlot is a deep pit, and her bowels a narrow pit.

Eclo 9,10 : Every woman who gives herself over to debauchery is like dung that is trampled on the road.

Eclo 19,3 : He who associates with prostitutes is a man of no worth.

Eclo 41,21 : Be ashamed of fornication before your father and your mother.

Jr 5,7ss : I filled them with gifts; and they commit adultery, approaching houses of debauchery.

1Cor 6,9 : Do you not know that the unrighteous will not possess the kingdom of God? […] Neither idolaters nor adulterers.

– Respect due to the body:

1Cor 6,13-20 : The body, however, is not for impurity, but for the Lord and the Lord for the body.

Col 3,5 : Mortify therefore your members in what is earthly: licentiousness, impurity, passions.

Heb 13:4 : Keep the marriage bed immaculate, for God will judge the impure and adulterers.

– Weakens the body and squanders goods:

Job 31:12 : A fire that would devour to the abyss and that would have ruined all my goods.

Pr 23:27 : For the harlot is a deep pit, and her bowels a narrow pit.

Pr 29:3 : Whoever loves wisdom makes his father happy; he who frequents prostitutes dissipates his fortune.

Pr 31 :3 : Do not give your vigor to women and your way to those who lose kings.

Eclo 9,6 : Never give yourself to prostitutes, lest you be lost with your possessions.

– We must avoid the occasions:

Pr 31 :3 : Do not give your vigor to women and your way to those who lose kings.

Eclo 9,1-13 : Do not be jealous of the woman […] so that she does not use against you the malice that you have taught her.

Eclo 42,12s : Do not stop your gaze on anyone’s beauty, do not linger among women.

– In addition to external work, evil desires are also prohibited:

Ex 20,17 : You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.

Mt 5:28 : Everyone who looks lustfully at a woman has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

– Sacred Scripture constantly speaks of spiritual fornication, that is, of idolatry:

Deut 31:16 : Behold, you will rest with your fathers, and this people will prostitute themselves to foreign gods.

Judg 2,17 : Not even her judges would listen and they continued prostituting themselves to other gods, worshiping them.

Judg 8,27.33 : But all the Israelites played the harlot before this ephod, which thus became a snare for Gideon and his house.

Is 1:21 : How did the faithful city, Zion, full of righteousness, play the harlot?

Is 57,3 : And you, draw near, sons of the sorceress, offspring of the adulterous and whoreish woman!

Jer 3:1 : If a man divorces his wife, and she leaves him to become the wife of another, will the husband take her back?

Ezekiel 6:9: I will break their heart, which played the harlot far from me, and their eyes, which played the whore with idols.

Hos 1:2 : Go and marry a woman given to adultery […] because the nation has dealt badly with the Lord.

Os 2,4 : Protest against your mother, protest, because she is no longer my wife and I am no longer her husband.

Rev 18:3 : All nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her lust.
