Jacob

– Son of Isaac, had his name changed by God to Israel:

Gen 25:26 : Isaac was sixty years old when they came into the world.

Gen 32:29 : “Your name will no longer be Jacob”, he replied, “but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed”.

– Several books of Sacred Scripture allude to the story of this patriarch and the divine blessing:

Jt 8,22-26 : Let them also remember how many trials Isaac was subjected to and everything that happened to Jacob.

2Mc 1,2 : May God fill you with goods and remember his covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, his faithful servants.

Ps 104 :23 : Then Israel entered Egypt, Jacob went to live in the land of Cam.

Eclo 44,22-23 : God swore that he would glorify him in his race, and promised that he would grow up like the dust of the earth.

Hos 12:13 : Jacob fled to Aaron’s fields, Israel worked as a servant to obtain a wife.

Mal 1,2 : “I have loved you”, says the Lord. “And you say, how did you love us? Was not Esau the brother of Jacob?”

Mt 1,2 : Abraham begat Isaac. Isaac spawned Jacob. Jacob spawned Judah and his brothers.

Mt 8,11 : I tell you that multitudes will come […] and will settle down in the Kingdom of Heaven with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Acts 7,8-15 : Abraham had a son, Isaac, and after eight days he circumcised him; and Isaac to Jacob; and Jacob, the twelve patriarchs.

Romans 9:13 : As it is written: I loved Jacob, but I hated Esau.

Heb 11,9.20-21 : It was by faith that he dwelt in the promised land […] dwelling there in tents with Isaac and Jacob.

Gen 29,1-30 : Jacob set out again and went to the land of the children of the East.

– Fled from Laban:

Gen 31,17-55 : Jacob tricked Laban the Aramean by hiding his escape from him.

– Reconciles with Esau:

Gen 33,1-20 : Jacob, looking up, saw Esau advancing with four hundred men.

– Blessed by God:

Gen 35,1-15 : God said to Jacob: “Let’s go […] build an altar in this place to the God who revealed himself to you”.

– Go down to Egypt and bless your children:

Gen 46,1–47,31 : Israel departed […]. He arrived at Beersheba, where he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

Gen 48,1-22 : They came to announce to Joseph: “Your father is sick”. So she took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

Gen 49,1-27 : Jacob called his sons and said to them: “Gather yourselves together […] I want to tell you what will happen to you.

– He died and was buried:

Gen 49,28–50,14 : This is what their father told them when he blessed them. To each he gave a particular blessing.
