Nazareth

– In the time of Jesus, it was a small town in lower Galilee, Palestine. It was despised by the Jews for having in its territory many foreigners, considered unclean by the Law of Moses, and who made those who lived with them unclean:

Jn 1,45-46 : We have found the one of whom Moses wrote in the Law and whom the prophets announced: it is Jesus of Nazareth, son of Joseph.

Rom 2,12-29 : All those who sinned without the Law, without application of the Law will perish.

– There Jesus grew up and spent most of his life, together with Mary and Joseph:

Mt 2:23 : And he came to dwell in the city of Nazareth, that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, He shall be called a Nazarene.

Mt 21:11 : The crowd answered: “It is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee”.

Mk 15:41 : They had followed him and helped him when he was in Galilee.

Lk 1:26 : In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth.

Luke 2:4, 39, 51 : Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the City of David, which is called Bethlehem.

Lc 4,16 : He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, according to his custom.

Jo 19,19 : Pilate also wrote an inscription and fixed it above the cross. On it was written: “Jesus of Nazareth, king of the Jews”.

– From there he left to live in Capernaum and begin his preaching:

Mt 4,12-17 : When therefore Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee.

Mk 1,14-20 : After John was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee. He preached the Gospel of God.

– Despite being from Nazareth, his countrymen did not accept his message:

Mt 13,53-58 : After expounding the parables, Jesus departed. He went to his city and taught in the synagogue.

Mk 6,1-6 : Then he left there and went to his homeland, followed by his disciples.

Lc 4,14-30 : Jesus, then, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee. And his fame spread throughout the region.

Jo 1,11 : He came to what was his, but his own did not receive him.
