Abomination

– Term used in the NT to designate the ruin of Jerusalem:

Mt 24:15 : When you see the abomination of desolation standing in the holy place.

Mk 13,1-23 : Do you see this great building? Not a stone will be left upon a stone that will not be demolished.

Lc 21,5-24 : Days will come when of these things that you see, not one stone will be left on another: everything will be destroyed.

– In the OT, it refers to the desecration of the Temple by the invaders:

1Mark 1:54 : Antiochus had the Abomination of Desolation erected on the altar.

2Mc 6,2 : He also ordered him to profane the temple of Jerusalem.

Dan 9,27 : On the wing of abominations will come the devastator.

Dan 11:31 : They will make the perpetual holocaust cease and install the abomination of the devastator.

Dan 12:11 : When the abomination of the devastator is established.
