– The name of the first man has to do with the dust from which he was taken by God. In Hebrew, “that which comes from clay” is called adam (adam):

Gen 2:7 : So the Lord God formed man from the clay of the earth.

Gen 3:19 : In the sweat of your face you shall eat your bread, until you return to the land from which you were taken.

– From then on, it is used as a proper name. Also in other OT and NT books:

Gen 4:1.25 : Adam knew Eve, his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain.

Gen 5,1.3.4 : It is the book of the history of Adam’s family. […] Adam knew […] his wife, and she gave birth to a son.

Tob 8,8 : You made Adam from the slime of the ground and gave him Eve as his companion.

Ps 8:5 : What are the children of Adam, that you care for them?

Eclo 33,10 : This is how God took all men from the ground and from the earth from which Adam was formed.

Lk 3:38 : Son of Henos, son of Seth, son of Adam, son of God.

Rom 5:14 : However, from Adam to Moses death reigned, even over those who had not sinned.

1Cor 15,21-22.45 : As in Adam all die, so in Christ all will live again.

Phil 3:21 : He will transform our miserable body, making it like his glorious body.

1Tm 2,13-14 : For the first to be created was Adam, then Eve. And it was not Adam who allowed himself to be deceived.

– Paul refers figuratively to the first Adam as a symbol of sin, in contrast to the second Adam, Jesus crucified and risen, firstborn of a portion of brothers by baptism.
