Anointing of the Sick

– Sacrament through which, by the anointing of oil and prayer of the priest, the seriously ill Christian is conferred the health of the soul and even that of the body, if it suits the salvation of the soul:

Jas 5,14s : And these pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick.

– The text contains the elements required for a true sacrament: a) sensible sign: prayer and anointing; b) production of grace: if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven; and c) institution by Christ: only God can link grace to a sensible sign (James speaks as of something already known).
