– The word means adversary of Christ . The term is found only in Saint John:
1Jn 2,18 : You have heard that the Antichrist is coming. Behold, there are already many antichrists.
1Jo 4,3 : Every spirit that does not proclaim Jesus is not from God, but is the spirit of the Antichrist.
2Jo 7 : Whoever proclaims this is the seducer and the Antichrist.
– The idea of opposition to the Kingdom of God is known both in the OT and in the NT:
Ez 38 : This is what the Lord Yahweh says: It is against you that I come, Gog, sovereign prince of Mosoc and Tubal.
Dan 7,8.11.20.21 : This horn had eyes identical to human eyes and a mouth that uttered arrogant words.
Dan 8,9.23 : From one of them came a small horn that grew considerably.
2Th 2,3-10 : He will use all the seductions of evil with those who are lost.
– Jesus himself announces that before his second coming false messiahs (false christs) will appear:
Mt 24:24 : For false Christs and false prophets will arise, who will perform miracles to the point of seducing.
Mk 13:22 : For false Christs and false prophets will arise, giving signs and portents to seduce.
