Confession of Faith

– Proclamation of a belief or a doctrine. In the AT, mainly in the poetic and wisdom books, praises are found for divine attributes such as mercy, justice and holiness.

– In the book of Psalms:

Ps 8:1-10 : Lord our God, how glorious is your name in all the earth!

Ps 9,1-14 : I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart, I will tell of all your wonders.

Ps 18 : 1-9: The heavens tell the glory of God, and the firmament proclaims the work of his hands.

Ps 23,1-10 : The earth is the Lord’s and all that it contains, the earth’s orbit and all who dwell in it.

Ps 24:7 : Do not remember the sins of my youth and my misdeeds.

Psalm 32:1-11 : Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous, for praise is fitting for the upright.

Ps 46,1-10 : Peoples, applaud with your hands, acclaim God with joyful voices.

Ps 50,1-21 : And according to the immensity of your mercy, blot out my iniquity.

Ps 65,1-8 : Sing the glory of his name, render him glorious praise.

Ps 76:10 : Has God forgotten to have mercy? Or has your anger overruled your clemency?

Ps 88,1-12 : I will sing of the goodness of the Lord forever; my mouth will publish his faithfulness.

Ps 94,1-11 : Come, let us express our joy to the Lord, let us hail the rock of our salvation.

Ps 95,1-13 : Sing a new song to the Lord. Sing to the Lord, all the earth.

Ps 97,1-5 : Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done wonders.

Ps 99,1-5 : Acclaim the Lord, all the earth. I served the Lord with joy.

Ps 104,1-45 : Celebrate the Lord, proclaim his name, proclaim his works among the nations.

Ps 116 : Praise the Lord all nations, praise him all peoples, for his mercy is boundless.

Ps 117 :4 : And you who fear the Lord, I said again: “His mercy endures forever”.

Psalm 135 : Praise the Lord, for he is good, for his mercy endures forever.

– In the book of Ecclesiasticus:

Eclo 39,16-21 : I will still reflect to tell it, because I am full of enthusiasm.

Eclo 42,15–43,1-24.33-37 : By the words of the Lord were produced his works.

– In the NT, the confession of faith in the incarnation of Christ is made:

Jn 1:14 : And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw […] the glory that the only Son receives from his Father.

1Jn 1,1-2 : We bear witness and announce to you the eternal life, which was in the Father and which was manifested to us.

– In his redemption through his death and in his resurrection:

Acts 4:12 : There is salvation in no one else, for no other name under heaven has been given to men.

1Cor 12,3 : No one can say: “Jesus is Lord”, except under the action of the Holy Spirit.

Phil 2:11 : And every tongue confess, to the glory of God the Father, that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Heb 3:1 : Consider the messenger and high priest of the faith we profess, Jesus.

– Finally, on the divinity of Christ:

Mt 16:16 : Simon Peter replied: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!”.

Jn 6,68-69 : You have the words of eternal life. And we believe and know that you are the Holy One of God!

John 20:28 : Thomas answered him: “My Lord and my God!”.

Romans 10 :9 : Therefore, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord.
