Demon

– The word demon is always used in a pejorative sense, unlike what happens in Greek writings. Synonyms of this entity are: devil, tempter, evil spirit, satan, evil one, dragon, ancient serpent; the devil sins, and he and his are cast out of heaven:

Rev 12,7-12 : Then the great Dragon, the primitive Serpent, called the Devil and Satan, was thrown down.

– That’s why they are also called fallen angels:

Is 14,12-13 : So! You fell from the heavens, bright star, son of the dawn!

– Precipitated in the tenebrous abysses of hell:

2Pet 2 :4 : For if God did not spare the angels that sinned, but cast them into the abyss?

– Try our first parents:

Gen 3:1-19 : “The serpent deceived me”, she replied, “and I ate”.

Rev 12,9.14s : The Serpent spewed a river of water against the Woman, to submerge her.

Revelation 20:2 : He caught the Dragon, the primeval Serpent, who is the Devil and Satan.

– In the AT, they have different names:

Gen 3:1 : The serpent was the most subtil of all the wild animals that the Lord God had made.

Tob 3,8.17 : But as soon as they approached her, a demon named Asmodeus killed them.

Tob 6,14 : It is even said that it was a demon that killed them.

Tob 8,3 : At that moment, the angel Raphael took the demon and imprisoned him in the desert of Upper Egypt.

Is 34:14 : Wild cats and dogs will meet there, and the satyrs will call to one another.

Br 4,7 : You had exasperated your Creator, offering sacrifices to demons and not to God.

– In the NT they are evil spirits, and Jesus fights them as responsible for temptations:

Mt 4,5-6 : The demon transported him to the Holy City, placed him on the highest point of the temple.

Mt 6:13 : Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Mt 13,25.39 : His enemy came, sowed weeds among the wheat, and departed.

Mk 1:13 : He was tempted by the devil and was in the company of wild animals.

Lc 4,1-2 : He was led by the Spirit into the desert, where he was tempted by the devil.

Luke 8:12 : But then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they neither believe nor be saved.

Jn 6:70 : Jesus added: “Did I not choose you, all twelve? However, one of you is a demon!…”

Jn 8:44 : You are of your father the devil and you want to do the desires of your father.

Jn 13 :2 : During supper – when the demon had already cast into Judas’ heart.

Jn 17:15 : I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.

– By obsession:

Mt 12:22 : Then they presented him with a blind and mute possessed man.

Mk 1:26 : The unclean spirit shook him violently and, giving a great cry, came out.

Mk 5,1-13 : As soon as they got out of the boat, a man possessed by an unclean spirit came out of the cemetery.

Lc 8,27-31 : A man from that region, possessed by many demons, met him.

– For diseases:

Mt 4,24 : They brought to him the sick and the sick, the possessed, the lunatics, the paralytics.

Mt 8,24-25 : The disciples came to him and woke him up, saying: “Lord, save us, we perish!”.

Mt 9:32 : As soon as they had gone, they presented him with a mute man possessed by a devil.

Mt 12:22 : Then they presented him with a blind and mute possessed man.

Mk 9,17.25 : Dumb and deaf spirit, I command you: come out of this child and do not enter him again.

Acts 10:38 : Doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with him.

– For its evil power:

Lk 11,14-15 : When the demon had gone out, the mute man began to speak and the crowd was astonished.

Acts 13:10 : Son of the devil, full of all deceit and all craftiness.

– He opposes the Kingdom of God:

Mt 13,19.25.38s : When a man hears the word of the Kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes.

Mk 4,15 : As soon as they hear it, Satan comes to take away the word sown in them.

Luke 8:12 : But then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they neither believe nor be saved.

Jn 8,44-47 : You have the devil as your father and you want to do the desires of your father.

Eph 6:16 : Above all, take up the shield of faith with which you can quench all the fiery darts of the evil one.

1Jn 2,13 : Young people, I am writing to you because you have overcome the evil one.

1Jo 5,18 : But what is begotten of God beware, and the evil one does not touch him.

Rev 2,9s.13 : During these days the devil will cast some of you into prison.

Revelation 3:9: I deliver to you followers of the synagogue of Satan, those who call themselves Jews.

Revelation 9:1-11 : Then I saw a star fall from heaven to earth, and the key to the bottomless pit was given to it.

Rev 12,3-18 : Then another sign appeared in heaven: a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns.

Rev 16,13s : I saw (come out) from the mouth of the Dragon, from the mouth of the Beast and from the mouth of the false prophet three spirits.

Rev 20,7-10 : After completing a thousand years, Satan will be released from prison.

– Try Christ:

Mt 4,1-11 : Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.

Mk 1,12s : And immediately the Spirit drove him into the desert.

Lk 4,1-13 : Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert, where he was tempted by the devil.

– It is an opponent of the Kingdom of Christ:

Mt 16:18 : On this rock I will build my Church; the gates of hell will not prevail against it.

2Cor 6,14ff : Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. What union can there be between righteousness and iniquity?

2Cor 12,7ff : I was given a thorn in the flesh, an angel of Satan to buffet me.

Eph 5:8 : You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord: behave like true lights.

Eph 6:11 : Put on the armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand the wiles of the devil.

Col 1:13 : He rescued us from the power of darkness and brought us into the Kingdom of his beloved Son.

1Pe 5,8s : Your adversary, the devil, walks around you like a roaring lion.

1Jn 2,13s : Young people, I am writing to you because you have overcome the evil one.

1Jo 5,18 : But what is begotten of God beware, and the evil one does not touch him.

– It is urgent to resist the devil:

1Cor 10,13 : God is faithful: he will not allow you to be tempted beyond your strength.

2Cor 2,11 : I do not want us to be overcome by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his machinations.

2Cor 11,3 : But I fear that, like the serpent deceived Eve with its cunning.

Eph 4:27 : Do not give way to the devil.

Eph 6,11ss : Put on the armor of God, so that you may be able to resist the wiles of the devil.

Jas 4,7 : Be submissive to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee far from you.

1Pt 5,8 : Be sober and watch. Your adversary, the devil.

– Jesus conquers them:

Mt 8,16-17 : With a word he expelled the spirits and healed all the sick.

Mt 5:41 : Depart from me, you cursed ones! Go to the eternal fire destined for the devil.

Mk 1,32-33 : In the evening, after sunset, all the sick and demon-possessed people were brought to him.

Lk 4:40 : Laying his hand on them, he healed them. From many came the demons, screaming.

– Realizing the lordship of God:

Mt 12:28 : But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come for you.

Mk 3,15.22 : He would send them out to preach, with the power to cast out demons.

Luke 11:15-16 : He expels demons through Beelzebul, prince of demons.

Rev 20, 2.10 : He caught the Dragon, the primitive Serpent, who is the Devil and Satan.

– In John the demons identify with the world:

Jo 12,31 : Now is the judgment of this world; now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

Jn 14:30 : I will no longer speak much with you, because the prince of this world is coming; but he has nothing on me.

Jo 16,11 : He will convince him about the judgment, which consists in that the prince of this world is already judged and condemned.

1Jn 4 : 4 : You have overcome them, because he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

Rev 9.20 : But the rest of men, who were not killed by these three scourges.

Rev 16,13-14 : They are the spirits of demons that perform wonders, and go to the kings of the whole earth.

Revelation 18:2 : Fallen, fallen Babylon the Great. It became the abode of demons, the prison of unclean spirits.

– Opposites to God:

Jn 1,5 : The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

John 3 :6 : What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Jo 8,15 : You judge according to appearance; I don’t judge anyone.

Jo 12,35 : Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness does not overtake you.

– They are submitted to Christ and to the believers; Paul speaks of powers or elements of the world:

Col 2,8.20-21 : Be on your guard, so that no one deceives you with philosophies and vain sophisms.

Gal 1 :4: Who gave himself for our sins, to free us from the perversity of the present world.

Eph 2:2: Following the way of life of this world, of the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that now works in the rebels.

– But they feel free:

1Cor 8,6 : But for us there is one God, the Father, from whom all things came.

– Condemns all worship rendered to them:

Col 2,18-19 : Let no one steal the palm of the race at will, under the pretext of humility and worship of angels.

– And puts us on our guard against the tempter:

Eph 6:11 : Put on the armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand the wiles of the devil.

1Tm 3,6 : Lest it happen that, overshadowed by vanity, he will fall into the same condemnation as the devil.

1Pt 5,8 : Be sober and watch. Your adversary, the devil, walks around you like a roaring lion.

1Jn 3:8 : This is why the Son of God was manifested: to destroy the works of the devil.
