Drunkenness

Pr 23,29-35 : Do not consider the wine: “how red it is, how it shines in the cup, how smoothly it flows!”.

Is 5,11.22 : Woe to those who seek drink from the morning, and who linger at night in the excitement of wine!

Is 28,1.7 : But these also falter under the influence of wine, hallucinated by the drink.

– Derived from it many vices:

Pr 20,1 : Wine is a mocker and liquor is a riot: whoever takes to this is not wise.

Pr 21:17 : He who loves feasting will be a poor man; he who loves wine and oil will not get rich.

Pr 31,4s : It is not fitting for kings to drink wine, nor for princes […] liquors, lest, by drinking, they forget the Law.

Eclo 31,30-40 : Drunkenness inspires boldness and makes the fool sin; it stifles forces and causes wounds.

– It constitutes an impediment to salvation:

Lc 21,34 : Lest your hearts become heavy with overeating, with drunkenness.

1Cor 5,11 : Do not have intercourse with anyone who is called a brother and is unclean, covetous, idolater, slanderer, drunkard.

1Cor 6:10 : Neither drunkards, nor slanderers, nor thieves will possess the Kingdom of God.

Gal 5:21 : Envy, drunkenness, orgies and other similar things. I warn you of these things, as I have already warned you: those who practice them will not inherit the Kingdom of God!

Is 29,9s : Get drunk , but not with wine, stagger, but not with drink.

Jer 13:13 : I will fill all the inhabitants of this land with drunkenness: the kings who occupy the throne of David.

Ez 23,32ss : You will drink your sister’s cup, a cup that is wide and deep, which will provoke ridicule and laughter.
