Galilee

– Famous region of Palestine, bordered on the north and west by Phoenicia, on the east by Syria and on the south by Samaria and the Decapolis, because it was chosen by God to be the homeland of Jesus:

Mt 2,22-23 : Divinely warned in a dream, he withdrew to the province of Galilee.

Mt 3:13 : Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan to John to be baptized by him.

Mt 21:11 : The crowd answered: “It is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee”.

Mt 26:69 : One of the handmaidens approached him, saying: “You too were with Jesus the Galilean”.

Mk 14:70 : Surely you are one of those, for you are a Galilean.

Lc 23,6 : At these words, Pilate asked if he was a Galilean.

Jn 7,41.52 : Others said: “This is the Christ”. But others protested: “Is it from Galilee that the Christ is to come?”.

– The road of the sea, which connects Damascus to the Mediterranean Sea, crosses Transjordan and Galilee, the pagan galil (district) of mixed population. The hidden life, preaching, and miracles of Jesus in Galilee fulfilled this prophecy:

Is 8,23-9 : But in the future he will cover with honors the way to the sea, across the Jordan and the district of the nations.

Mt 4,12-16 : When therefore Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee.

– Very intense trade corridor, it was despised by the Jews because of the presence of many foreigners, called “pigs”:

1Mk 5:15 : Nations from Ptolemais […] and from all Galilee […] have gathered against us to utterly destroy us.

Mt 8:31 : The demons begged Jesus: “If you cast us out, send us to that herd of pigs”.

– For this reason Nazareth (in Galilee) was despised by the Jews:

Jn 1:45 : We have found the one of whom Moses wrote in the Law and whom the prophets announced: he is Jesus of Nazareth, son of Joseph.

– The evangelists record that there Jesus appeared to the apostles after the resurrection:

Mt 26:32 : But after my Resurrection I will precede you to Galilee.

Mt 28,16-17 : The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain that Jesus had assigned them.

Mk 14:28 : But after I rise again, I will precede you to Galilee.

Mk 16 :7 : But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he goes before you to Galilee.

Lc 24,6 : He is not here, but is risen. Remember how he told you when he was still in Galilee.
