Esther’s story is one of the most fascinating in the Old Testament. At a time when the Jewish people were in exile in Persia, Esther, a young Jewish woman, was chosen to become queen of Persia. At a critical moment, when the Jewish people were threatened with extermination, Esther was challenged to come to the defense of her people. Esther had to face great challenges to fulfill her mission, but ultimately, her courage and determination were key to the survival of the Jewish people.
In Esther 4:14, Mordecai, Esther’s cousin and guardian, tells her, “For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will come to the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish; and who knows whether for such a time as this thou hast reached this kingdom?” These words reflect the importance of Esther’s mission and the need for her to fulfill her purpose.
Many times in life we are faced with challenges and difficult situations that require courage and determination to overcome. As Christians, we too have a mission and a purpose to fulfill. The Bible teaches us that we were created by God for a specific purpose (Ephesians 2:10). God’s purpose for our lives is unique and individualized for each of us.
Like Esther, we are called to fulfill our mission with courage and determination. Sometimes it can be difficult to understand what our mission and God’s purpose for our lives are, but we can look to God for guidance and direction. We can pray and ask God to reveal his plan for our lives and to help us fulfill our mission.
Esther is a powerful example of how courage and determination can be used to fulfill a greater purpose. She put herself at risk to defend her people and ultimately saved them from destruction. Likewise, as Christians, we can strive to fulfill our purpose and mission in God, knowing that He is with us at all times.
