Gospel

– Euangelion is a Greek term that literally means good news, good news, joyful news, and refers to the preaching of Jesus announcing the Kingdom of God:

Mt 4,23 : Jesus traveled throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom.

Mt 9,35 : He taught in the synagogues, preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom and healing every disease and illness.

Mk 1,14-15 : After John was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee. He preached the Gospel of God.

Heb 4,2 : The Good News was brought to us, as it was to them. But it did them no good, because they fell into disbelief.

– In the NT, the Gospel is the message of salvation brought by Jesus Christ:

Mt 4,23 : Jesus traveled throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom.

Mt 9,35 : He taught in the synagogues, preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom and healing every disease and illness.

Mc 1,1 : Beginning of the Good News of Jesus Christ, Son of God. As it is written in the prophet Isaiah.

Acts 15:7: God chose me from among you, so that by my mouth the Gentiles might hear the word of the Gospel and believe.

– And it is the message of the apostles announcing the resurrection of Jesus and his universal lordship; therefore the Gospel is of God:

Mk 1:14 : After John was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee. He preached the Gospel of God.

1Th 2,8 : In our tenderness for you, we wanted not only to communicate to you the Gospel of God, but even our own life.

1Pt 4:17 : Because the time is coming when judgment will begin for the house of God.

– It is God’s power, grace, and way:

Lc 20,21 : Master, we know that you speak and teach with righteousness and that, without respecting anyone, you teach the way of God.

Acts 14:3: They stayed there for a long time, speaking boldly and trusting in the Lord.

Acts 20:24 : The ministry of the word which I received from the Lord Jesus, to bear witness to the Gospel of the grace of God.

Rom 1:16 : I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is power from God for the salvation of everyone who believes.

2Cor 6,7 : By the word of truth, by the power of God; by the offensive and defensive weapons of righteousness.

– But it is also the way of Christ:

Romans 1 :9: For God, whom I serve in my spirit by proclaiming the gospel of his Son, is my witness.

1Cor 9,12 : We have not made use of this right: we have suffered everything in order not to put any obstacle to the Gospel of Christ.

Gal 1,7 : There are only people who sow confusion among you and want to disturb the Gospel of Christ.

1Th 3,2 : To send you Timothy, our brother and minister of God in the Gospel of Christ.

– Refers to him and his coming:

Lc 2,10-11 : The angel said to them: Do not be afraid, behold, I bring you good news that will be joy for all the people.

Romans 1 :3 : Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, a descendant of David in the flesh.

– To his redemptive work:

1Cor 15,3-4 : I delivered to you first of all what I myself had received: that Christ died for our sins.

– At your word:

Col 3,16 : The word of Christ abide among you in all its richness.

– Which is the word of life:

Phil 2:16 : Bearing the word of life. In this way, on the day of Christ, I will feel joy.

– Really:

2Cor 6,7 : By the word of truth, by the power of God; by the offensive and defensive weapons of righteousness.

Gal 5,7 : You ran well. Who, then, cut you off from obeying the truth?

Eph 1:13 : After you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation in which you believed.

Col 1,5 : Hope that was transmitted to you by preaching the truth of the Gospel.

– Of faith:

Rom 10 :8: The word is close to you, in your mouth and in your heart. This is the word of faith that we preach.

– Salvation:

Acts 13:26 : Brethren, children of Abraham, and those among you who fear God: it is to us that the message of salvation was addressed.

1Cor 15,2 : By him you will be saved, if you keep it as I preached it to you. Otherwise, in vain would you have embraced the faith.

Eph 1 :3 : Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who blessed us from heaven.

– Of universal reconciliation:

2Cor 5,18-19 : All this comes from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ.

Col 1:20 : And through him to reconcile all creatures to himself.

– Of peace:

Eph 2,14-15 : Because he is our peace, he who made two peoples one, destroying the wall of enmity that separated them.

Eph 6:12 : For it is not against men of flesh and blood that we have to fight, but against principalities and powers.

– It is the splendor of Christ:

2Cor 4,4 : To such an extent that they do not perceive the light of the Gospel, where the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, shines.

– It is an invitation to conversion:

Mt 3,2 : He said: “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand”.

Mt 4:17 : From then on, Jesus began to preach: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand”.

Mk 1,15 : The time has come and the Kingdom of God is at hand; do penance and believe in the Gospel.

Mk 6:12 : They left and preached penance.

Lk 5:32 : I did not come to call the righteous to conversion, but sinners.

Lk 13,3.5 : No, I tell you. But if you do not repent, you will all perish in the same way.

Lc 24,47 : In his name, penance and forgiveness of sins would be preached to all nations, starting from Jerusalem.

Acts 20:21 I preached conversion to God and faith in our Lord Jesus to Jews and Gentiles.

– Revelation of the mystery hidden in God:

Rom 16:25 : To him who is able to establish you, according to my Gospel, in the preaching of Jesus Christ.

Eph 3:9: And to manifest to all the saving plan of God, a mystery hidden from eternity in God, who created all things.

Col 1:26 : This mystery that was hidden […], but which has now been made manifest to his saints.

– Revelation that the angels desire to behold:

1Pt 1,12 : Revelations that the angels themselves want to contemplate.

– Which remains veiled for those who are lost:

2Cor 4,3 : If our Gospel is still hidden, it is hidden from those who are lost.

– It is aimed at everyone:

Mt 24:14 : This Gospel of the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world to serve as a witness to all nations.

Mt 26:13 : Wherever this Gospel is preached throughout the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.

Mt 28:19 : Go therefore and teach all nations; baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Mk 13:10 : But first the Gospel must be preached to all nations.

Mk 16:15 : And he said to them: “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature”.

Luke 24:47 : And that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning with Jerusalem.

1Cor 9,19-20 : Although free from subjection to anyone, I made myself the servant of all to win as many people as possible.

– The Gospel preached by Paul consists of the proclamation of the mystery of salvation for all peoples:

Rom 2:16 : This will clearly appear on the day when, according to my Gospel, God will judge actions.

Romans 16 : To him who is able to establish you according to my gospel in preaching Jesus Christ.

Gal 2,7-8 : On the contrary, they saw that the evangelization of the uncircumcised was entrusted to me, like that of the circumcised to Peter.

2Tm 2,8 : Remember Jesus Christ, descended from the stock of David and raised from the dead, according to my Gospel.

– On account of faith in Jesus Christ:

Gal 2,11.21 : I do not despise the grace of God; but, verily, if justice is obtained by the Law, Christ died in vain.

– Paul feels obliged to proclaim the Gospel:

1Cor 9,16 : Proclaiming the Gospel is not glory for me; it is an obligation imposed on me.

– For this purpose, his minister was chosen and constituted:

Gal 1:12-15 : I neither received nor learned it from any man, but through a revelation of Jesus Christ.

Eph 3:7 : I became a servant of this Gospel by virtue of the grace given to me by the omnipotent divine action.

– The Gospel is placed before the Law, not in the sense of true opposition, but in the sense of completion, completion, improvement:

Mt 5,17 : Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the prophets. I did not come to abolish them, but to bring them to perfection.

Rom 3:31 : Do we then destroy the law through faith? Not at all. On the contrary, we give it all its strength.

Rom 10 :4: For Christ is the end of the Law, to justify everyone who believes.

Gal 3,23-26 : Before faith came, we were locked up under the surveillance of a Law, waiting for the revelation of faith.

– Later, that is, approximately from the second century AD, the word Gospel came to mean the written record of the life and preaching of the Good News by Jesus Christ (cf. Saint Justin, Apology 66).
