– For the Semites, the seat of thought, of knowledge:
Jr 24,7 : I will give them a heart able to know me and to know that I am the Lord.
Dan 2:30 : The Lord your God made his spirit obsessed and hardened his heart.
– In a figurative sense, this is where decisions, feelings, affections and love come from:
Deut 4:29 : You will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deut 6 :5: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength.
Deut 30:6 : The Lord […] will circumcise your heart and that of your offspring, so that you may love the Lord with all your heart.
1Sm 24,6 : And immediately afterwards his heart beat because he had dared to do that.
Jr 31,33 : I will instill my Law in him; I will engrave it on her heart.
Jr 32,39 : I will give them one heart and one destiny, so that they will always reverence me.
Ez 18,31 : Put away all your faults, to create a new heart in you.
Ez 36,25-26 : I will remove the heart of stone from your breasts and give you a heart of flesh.
– In many NT passages, heart is used with the same meanings. Here are just a few examples:
