For he will be like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap.” The Messiah will bring judgment and justice, purifying the people and the nation.
As early as verse 3, Malachi describes the work of the Messiah: “He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver; then they will bring offerings to the Lord in righteousness.” The Messiah is described as a purifier who will cleanse the people of their sins and refine them like gold and silver so that they can offer offerings to the Lord in righteousness.
This prophecy by Malachi is one of many Old Testament promises about a Messiah who would be sent by God. For Christians, that promise was fulfilled in Jesus Christ, who came as the Messiah to cleanse and save people from their sins.
