What do the passages in Daniel 7 and 11 teach us about the rise of the antichrist?

The passages in Daniel 7 and 11 are often associated with the rise of the Antichrist. The Bible does not mention the term “antichrist” explicitly, but the descriptions found in these chapters indicate the coming of an ungodly leader who will oppose God and his people.

In Daniel 7, there is a vision of four beasts representing four successive kingdoms. The fourth beast is described as “terrible, dreadful, and exceedingly strong” (Daniel 7:7), and is endowed with ten horns. Verse 8 states that “among them came another little horn,” which uprooted three of the original horns. This little horn is often interpreted as an evil figure, rising to power and opposing God.

In Daniel 11, there are a series of prophecies that describe future conflicts between the kings of the north and south. Although these passages historically refer to conflicts between the Seleucid Empire and Ptolemaic Egypt, many scholars believe that these prophecies also point to future events. From verse 36, the language used describes a figure known as a “king” or “prince” who “will do according to his will” (Daniel 11:36), will blaspheme against God and persecute the saints of the Most High.

These passages from Daniel teach us that human history is marked by conflicts between good and evil, and that an impious leader and opponent of God will arise at the end of time. However, they also teach us that God is sovereign and that his plans are unshakable. Verse 27 of Daniel 7 states that, in the end, “the kingdom and dominion and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven will be given to the people of the saints of the Most High”, that is, God will always triumph over evil.

As Christians, we must be vigilant and pray that we will be strengthened in our faith in order to stand firm amidst the tribulations and adversities to come. The apostle Paul exhorts us not to be afraid, but to trust in God and stand firm in our faith: “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1 :7).
