High priest

– Annually chosen to be head of the priests and Levites, he also had political power among the Jews. He sentenced Jesus to death:

Mt 26,3.57-68 : Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered together in the courtyard of the high priest.

Jn 18,19,22-24 : The high priest asked Jesus about his disciples and his doctrine.

Heb 2:17 : It was fitting for him to become like his brothers in everything, that he might be a compassionate high priest.
