Immortality

– For the Semites, life ended in the mansion of the dead, called sheol . The condition of being immortal by resurrection first appears in:

2Mc 7,9 : Cursed, you snatch away our present life, but the King of the universe will raise us up to an eternal life.

Dan 12:2 : Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth will awaken, some to eternal life.

– The Book of Wisdom says that God created us for immortality:

Wis 2:23 : God created man for immortality, and made him in the image of his own nature.

Wis 3,1-2 : But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will touch them.

Wis 4,7 : As for the righteous, even if he dies before his age, he will enjoy rest.

– Soon after death, the eternal life, which we already carry in us on this earth, will become perfect in the resurrection:

1Cor 15,53-54 : And let this mortal body put on immortality.

2Cor 5,6-7 : We know that all the time we spend in the body is an exile far from the Lord.

Phil 1:23 : I feel pressure from both sides: on the one hand, I would like to detach myself to be with Christ.

Jo 6,54 : Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life; and I will raise him up on the last day.

Mt 25:46 : And these will go away into eternal punishment, and the righteous into eternal life.

Jn 6:40 : May everyone who sees the Son and believes in him have eternal life; and I will raise him up on the last day.

Eph 2:6 : He raised us up together with him and made us sit together in heaven with Christ Jesus.

Rev 3:21 : To the victor I will grant to sit down with me on my throne, just as I […] sat down with my Father on his throne.
