The book of Proverbs contains much wise advice to help us live according to God’s will. Both are negative feelings that keep us from enjoying the life God has given us and appreciating the blessings we have received.
When we allow envy and jealousy to rule our hearts, it can affect our physical and emotional well-being. Envy can consume us, leaving us constantly dissatisfied and unhappy. In contrast, a heart at peace brings us a sense of tranquility and contentment that benefits our body and mind.
To avoid envy and jealousy, it is important to remember that each person is unique and has a special purpose in life. We should focus on our own blessings and work towards achieving our own goals instead of envying what others have. Furthermore, we must remember that everything we have is a gift from God and be grateful for it.
When we are prone to envy or jealousy, we should turn to God in prayer and ask for His help in getting rid of these negative feelings. The apostle Paul encourages us in Philippians 4:6-7 to “not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” By trusting God and seeking peace from Him, we can get rid of envy and jealousy and live a life filled with peace and contentment.
