Maria

– Name of the Mother of Jesus:

– Name also of Aaron’s sister prophetess:

Ex 15:20 : The prophetess Mary, Aaron’s sister, took her tambourine in her hand, and all the women followed her.

– Conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit:

Mt 1,18 : Before they lived together, it happened that she conceived by virtue of the Holy Spirit.

Lc 1,27.35 : To a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David and the virgin’s name was Mary.

– Introduced Jesus to the Magi:

Mt 2,11-12 : Entering the house, they found the child with Mary, his mother. Falling down before him, they worshiped him.

– Fled to Egypt with Joseph and baby Jesus:

Mt 2,13-14 : An angel […] appeared to Joseph in a dream and said: “Get up, take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt”.

– Lived with his son in Nazareth:

Mt 2:23 : And he came to dwell in the city of Nazareth, that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled.

Mt 13:55 : Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not Mary his mother? Are not your brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?

Lc 2,39-52 : After having observed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their city of Nazareth.

– He meditated in his heart on the events he was witnessing:

Lc 2,19.51 : Mary kept all these words, pondering them in her heart.

– Protagonist in the episode of the miracle of Cana:

Jn 2,1-2 : Three days later, there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.

– Intervenes at times in the public life of Jesus:

Mt 12,46-47 : Jesus was still speaking to the crowd when his mother and brothers came and were waiting outside.

– And at Pentecost:

Acts 1:14 : They persevered […] in prayer, together with the women, including Mary, the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.

Acts 2:1 : When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place.

– Holy Mary is the Mother of God; although Sacred Scripture does not say that Mary is the Mother of God, it expressly affirms that Jesus Christ is the true God and that Mary is his mother; hence it follows that, being the mother of Jesus, she is the mother of God:

Mt 1,18 : Before they lived together, it happened that she conceived by virtue of the Holy Spirit.

Mt 2,11 : Entering the house, they found the child with Mary, his mother. Falling down before him, they worshiped him.

Lk 1,41s-43 : Only Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting […] and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Acts 1:14 : They continued with one accord in prayer, along with the women, including Mary, the mother of Jesus.

– She is a virgin before giving birth, according to the prophecy of Isaiah:

Is 7:14 : The Lord himself will give you a sign: a virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him “God with us”.

Mt 1,18 : Before they lived together, it happened that she conceived by virtue of the Holy Spirit.

Luke 3:23 : And he was said to be the son of Joseph, the son of Eli, the son of Mattath.

– Virgin in childbirth:

Is 7:14 : The Lord himself will give you a sign: a virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him “God with us”.

– Lucas indirectly indicates virginity in childbirth. If Jesus had been born like the others, Mary would not have been able to give him all the primary care by her own hands.

– Virgin after childbirth:

Lk 1:34 : Mary asked the angel: “How can this be done, since I do not know a man?”.

– It is concluded that Mary had the firm intention of “not knowing man”; she accepts the mission of being the mother of the Messiah, after the angel has assured that everything will be done “by the work of the Holy Spirit”.
