Paradise

– Comes from the Latin paradisus , garden, park. According to the Bible, a pleasant and peaceful place where God placed Adam and Eve shortly after their creation:

Gen 3,1-2.8.23 : Is it true that God forbade you to eat the fruit of every tree in the garden?

– It is with the meaning of pleasant place that it appears in several other places:

Gn 2,8.15 : The Lord God had planted a garden in Eden, on the east side, and placed in it the man he had created.

Gen 3,23-24 : The Lord God expelled him from the garden of Eden, so that he could cultivate the land “from which he had taken”.

Gen 13:10 : Lot, looking up, saw that all the plain of the Jordan was watered with water […] like the garden of the Lord.

Ecl 2,5 : I made gardens and orchards, where I planted fruit trees of every kind.

Song 4,12 : You are an enclosed garden, my sister, my bride.

Song 5,1 : I go into my garden, my sister, my bride, I gather my myrrh and my balsam.

Song 6,2 : My beloved went down to his garden, to the fragrant beds.

Ez 28,12-13 : You were in Eden, the garden of God, you were covered with different gems: sardonyx, topaz and diamond.

– Was used by the prophets when referring to messianic times:

Is 51 :3 : He will make the desert where it has become an Eden, and its steppe a garden of the Lord.

Is 65,17-25 : For I will create new heavens, and a new earth; the past will no longer be remembered, it will no longer return to the spirit.

Ez 36,35 : It will be said: this land that was found to be devastated has become a garden of Eden!

Ez 47:12 : Along the stream, on each of its banks, will grow fruit trees of every kind.

Eclo 40,17.27 : Beneficence is like a blessed paradise, and mercy will remain forever.

Rev 2:7 : To the victor I will feed (from the fruit) of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

Rev 22,2-3 : In the middle of the avenue and on both sides of the river, there was a tree of life, which bears twelve fruits.

– Eden (hanging garden of Babylon) also came to designate paradise, the garden in which Adam and Eve lived before being expelled from it:

– To the good thief who asks Jesus to enter his Kingdom, he promises him paradise:

Lk 23,40-43 : Jesus answered him: “Truly I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise”.
