Peace

– Coming from the Latin pax , through the verb pangere , to solidly establish, firm, conclude, has the sense of establishing an armistice by agreement, resolving an armistice by agreement between two belligerent parties.

– On the religious level, it is synonymous with friendship with God:

Tob 12:17 : But the angel said to them: “Peace be with you: do not be afraid”.

Wis 3 :9 : Those who put their trust in him will understand the truth, and those who are faithful will dwell with him in love.

Eclo 38,8 : Until the divine peace extends over the face of the earth.

– And from it comes:

Leviticus 26 : 6 : I will give peace to your land and your sleep will not be disturbed.

Num 6,26 : The Lord turn his face towards you and give you peace!

1Kings 2:33 : Their blood will return forever […] but to David, to his race and to his throne, the Lord will give peace forever.

Ps 28:11 : The Lord will bless his people, giving them peace!

Is 26,3.12 : Who has a firm character and keeps peace, because he has confidence in you.

Is 52,7 : How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces happiness.

Ez 34,25-26 : I will conclude a peace treaty with them.

Mal 2,5 : My alliance with Levi was a pact of life and prosperity and also of fear.

Rom 1 : 7: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

2Cor 1,2 : Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

Phil 4 :7 : And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts.

– The fruit of the covenant with God is peace:

Gen 15:15 : As for you, you will go to your fathers in peace, and you will be buried in a happy old age.

Gen 43:23 : “Be calm”, he replied to them, “do not be afraid. He is your God”.

– NT writers point to it as a sign of the Messiah:

Mt 10,12-13 : Entering a house, greet it: Peace to this house.

Lc 2,14 : Glory to God in the highest heaven and on earth peace to men, objects of benevolence.

Luke 19:38 : Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heaven!

Jn 20,19.21.26 : Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them: “Peace be with you!”

– The Kingdom of God, based on peace, is the fruit of justice and love:

Is 32,17 : Justice will produce peace and law will ensure tranquility.

Rom 14:17 : The Kingdom of God is not food and drink, but righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Phl 1,10-11 : With which you may discern what is more perfect and become pure and blameless for the day of Christ.

– After the resurrection, Jesus greets his disciples, wishing them peace:

Jas 3,17-18 : Wisdom, however, which comes from above, is first pure, then peaceable.
