– Synonymous with man; terminology frequently used by Ezekiel, which means that he has a human form. Already a Jewish tradition saw in this passage an allusion to the person of the Messiah:
Ez 2,1 : “Son of Man”, he told me, “Stand up, because I speak to you!”.
Ez 3,17 : Son of Man, I have appointed you as a watchman over the house of Israel.
Ez 33,7 : Son of Man, I made you a sentinel in the house of Israel.
– The Christian tradition adopted this interpretation:
Acts 7:56 : Then they raised a great cry, stopped their ears, and all together rushed at him in a rage.
Rev 1:13 : In the midst of the lampstands, someone like the Son of Man, wearing a long tunic reaching down to his feet.
Rev 14:14 : I also saw a white cloud, on which something like a Son of Man was sitting.
– After Jesus qualified himself in this way:
Mt 8:20 : Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.
Mt 25:31 : When the Son of Man returns in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.
Mt 26:64 : I tell you that from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Almighty.
Mark 8:31 , 38 : And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things.
Mk 9:31 : The Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him; and he will rise three days after his death.
Mk 10:45 : For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Lc 6,22 : Blessed are you when […] they reject your name as infamous because of the Son of Man!
Luke 9:58 : Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.
