The Bible teaches us that God is just in all his ways and does no wrong. In Job 34:10-12, Elihu, one of Job’s friends, talks about God’s justice in the midst of human suffering.
Elihu begins by saying that it is unthinkable that God would do evil, because he is perfect in his wisdom and knowledge. He goes on to say that God does not act unjustly and does not distort anyone’s rights. He treats everyone fairly, making no distinction between the poor and the rich, because he is everyone’s creator. God does not allow himself to be corrupted by wealth, nor is he influenced by someone’s social position.
Elihu also emphasizes that God does not act without purpose. He knows all the ways of men and sees all their works. God is not indifferent to human suffering. He knows the pain of each person and is present in the midst of suffering. As it is written in Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
God’s justice is perfect, and in the midst of suffering, it’s important to remember that he has a plan for our lives. This doesn’t mean we won’t suffer, but we can trust that God is present in the midst of suffering and that he is able to sustain us and give us the strength to endure the pain. As it is written in Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my faithful right hand”.
In short, God’s justice is manifested in the midst of suffering through his constant presence and love for us. We can trust him to be just in all his ways, even if we cannot fully understand his purposes. As it is written in Romans 8:28, “We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose”.
