In chapter 2 of the book of Acts, we find a description of the growth of the early church in Jerusalem shortly after Pentecost. Furthermore, the early church was characterized by the unity of all members. Verses 44 and 45 report that “all those who believed were together and had everything in common. They sold their possessions and goods, distributing the proceeds among all, as anyone had need.” Believers were willing to share their possessions and resources, which created a community of mutual care and solidarity.
Another characteristic of the early church was the regular practice of worship and fellowship. Verse 46 tells us that “they continued daily with one accord in the temple, and broke bread from house to house, and ate their meals with gladness and singleness of heart.” Believers gathered daily in the temple to worship God together and also in private homes to share bread and fellowship.
Finally, the early church had a powerful witness with non-believers. Verse 47 reports that “they praised God and were well-liked by all the people.” The way believers lived their lives and cared about each other caught the attention of those around them and drew many into the community of faith.

Fellowship, fellowship, worship, and witness were fundamental aspects of church life then and remain important to us today.
