Love and friendship: the importance of relationships in life (Ecc 4:9-12)

The Bible talks about the importance of relationships in human life, both with God and with other people. In Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, the author teaches us about the importance of love and friendship in life:

“Two are better than one, because they are better paid for their work. Because if one falls, the other picks up his partner; but woe to him who is alone; for, falling, there will be no one to lift him up. Also, if two sleep together, they will keep warm; but one alone how shall he warm himself? And if anyone wants to prevail against one, the two will resist him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”

In these verses, we can see that God created human beings to relate and that life is better when we are together with other people. Love and friendship are fundamental to our emotional, physical and spiritual well-being.

When we are going through difficult times, the presence of a friend or loved one can help us overcome the difficulties. The author of Ecclesiastes teaches us that when one falls, the other gets up, that is, when a friend is in difficulty, the other can help him get up and move on.

In addition, the Bible also teaches us about loving our neighbor. In Matthew 22:39, Jesus says, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” This is one of the main lessons Jesus left us, and it teaches us that we should love and care for the people around us, just as we care for ourselves.

Therefore, the Bible teaches us that relationships are important to our life and that we should love and care for the people around us. May we live this truth in our lives, cultivating true friendships and loving our neighbor as ourselves.
