Truth

– In the AT, the truth of God’s covenant with the chosen people is emphasized. God is faithful, whereas the Israelites are not:

Ex 34,6 : Lord, Lord, God compassionate and merciful, slow to anger, rich in goodness and faithfulness.

Num 23:19 : God is not a man to lie, nor one to repent.

Deut 7 :9: Recognize, therefore, that the Lord […] is truly God,[…] who keeps his covenant and his mercy.

Deut 32,4 : He is the Rock, perfect is his work, righteous, all his ways.

Ps 30,6 : Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, O Lord, faithful God.

Ps 85,15 : But you, Lord, are a kind and compassionate God; slow to anger, full of mercy and faithfulness.

Ps 88,2-3 : I will sing of the goodness of the Lord forever; my mouth will publish your faithfulness from generation to generation.

Ps 131 :11 : The Lord swore an oath to David […]: “I will place a descendant of your race on your throne”.

Ps 145,6 : This is the God who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that they contain; that he is eternally true to his word.

1Sm 15:29 : He who is the truth of Israel does not lie, nor repents, for he is not a man to repent.

2Sm 15,20 : Return. Take yours with you and may the Lord be merciful and faithful to you.

Is 49 :7 : Kings will rise before you and princes will bow down, because of the Lord, who is faithful.

Is 65,16 : Whoever wishes to be blessed on earth, will wish to be blessed by the faithful God.

Jr 32,18-19 : You grant your favors to thousands, and punish children for the sins of the fathers.

– And proof with concrete actions:

Psalm 57 :4 : From the womb the wicked have gone astray, from birth the liars have gone astray.

Ps 90,3-4 : He will cover you with his feathers […]. His faithfulness will be a shield of protection for you.

Pr 3,23-24 : Then you will walk safely, without your foot stumbling.

Is 25,1-2 : You are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, because you have carried out wonderful designs.

Mic 7,18-19 : What is the God who […] forgives the sin […] of his people, who does not get angry […] because he prefers mercy?

– Is an example for humanity:

Exodus 18:21 : But you shall choose wise men from among the people, men who fear God, […] and put them at the head of the people.

Josh 24:14 : Fear the Lord and serve him with all righteousness and faithfulness.

1Kings 2 :4 : If my children keep his ways and walk faithfully before him.

1Kings 3 :6 : You freely gave your grace to your servant David […], because he walked faithfully before you.

2 Kings 20:3 : Remember that I walked faithfully before you and that […] I did what was good in your eyes

Is 38,3 : Lord, remember that I have walked before you faithfully, with all my heart, according to your will.

Mal 2,6 : His mouth taught the truth, and no perversity was found on his lips.

– His Word is true:

Ps 110,7-8 : The works of his hands are truth and justice, his precepts unchangeable.

Ps 118,86,138,142,151-152,160 : You have enacted your statutes in all righteousness and in all truth.

– He deigned to reveal it:

Ps 24 :5 : Direct me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation and in you I trust always.

Ps 25:3 : I always have your goodness before my eyes, and I walk in your truth.

Ps 85:11 : Teach me your way, Lord, that I may walk in your truth.

Pr 8,6-7 : Only righteousness will issue from my lips, for my mouth proclaims the truth and my lips hate iniquity.

Ecclesiastes 12: 9-10 : Ecclesiastes applied himself to the search for agreeable sentences and to writing truthful sayings with accuracy.

Jn 1:18 : No one has ever seen God. The only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, has revealed it.

– What we receive at Baptism:
