Way

– In addition to frequent use in the normal sense, this word is used metaphorically indicating the rule of our actions:

Ex 13:21 : The Lord went before them: by day in a pillar of cloud to guide them along the way.

Deuteronomy 1:33 : He walked before you on the road, in the fire by night to show you the way, and in the cloud by day.

Ps 1 :6: For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, while the path of the wicked leads to destruction.

Psalm 5:9 : I have walked in the paths of righteousness because of my enemies; smooth your way for me.

Ps 17:31 : The ways of God are perfect, the word of the Lord is pure.

Ps 26:11 : Teach me, O Lord, your way; because of the adversaries, guide me on the straight path.

Ps 118,3,15,33,37,45 : I will meditate on your precepts, and consider your ways.

Ps 138,24 : See if I walk in the path of evil, and have led myself along the path of eternity.

Jr 18,11 : Return therefore, all of you, from the evil path, amend your ways and your actions.

Pr 4,14 : In the road of the wicked do not enter, do not go in the way of the wicked.

Ecclesiastes 21:11 : The path of sinners […] leads to the land of the dead, to darkness and torment.

Is 30:21 : “Here is the way, walk in it”, when you go astray or to the right.

Mal 3,1 : I will send my messenger to prepare my way.

– Designates the conduct of human life that can be the path of life:

Deuteronomy 8 : 6 : You shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God, walking in his ways and fearing him.

Deut 30,15-16 : I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in his ways.

Deut 32,4 : He is the Rock, perfect is his work, righteous, all his ways.

1 Kings 15:34 : Baasha did evil before the Lord. […] He gave himself over to the sin into which Jeroboam had dragged Israel.

Ps 1,1.6 : Happy is the man who does not follow the advice of the wicked, does not walk in the way of sinners.

Ps 101 :24 : God has exhausted my strength in the middle of the road, shortened my days.

Pr 6:23 : The precept is a torch, the teaching is a light, correction and discipline are the path of life.

Pr 8,20 : I follow the path of justice, in the middle of the path of equity.

Pr 10:17 : He who observes discipline is on the path of life; what goes wrong is what repression forgets.

Pr 15:24 : The wise climb the path of life, to avoid going down to the abode of the dead.

Jr 10,23 : And that the walker does not have the power to direct his steps.

Jr 21,8 : Then you will say to the people – oracle of the Lord: behold, I put you at the crossroads of the paths of life and death.

– Or of perdition:

Ps 35 :5: On his bed he meditates crime, he walks in the wrong way, he does not hate evil.

Pr 4,18-19 : But the path of the righteous is like the dawn, whose brightness grows until full day.

Pr 7:27 : His house is the way to the land of the dead, which leads to the bowels of death.

Pr 12:28 : Life is in the path of righteousness; the path of hatred, however, leads to death.

Jr 23,12 : Therefore, his path will be like a slippery path in darkness.

– The faithful should pray that God will show them the way:

Ps 24:4 : Lord, show me your ways, and teach me your paths.

1Sm 12,23 : I will show you the good and straight way.

1 Kings 8:36 : Show them the good way they should go and send rain on the earth.

– In the NT John the Baptist is identified as the messenger who prepares the way (the hearts) to welcome Jesus:

Mt 3,3 : Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths (Is 40,3).

Mk 1,2-3 : He will prepare your way. […] Trace the way of the Lord, make His paths smooth (Mal 3:1; Is 40:3).

Lk 3,4-5: In the book […] of the prophet Isaiah (Is 40,3ss) : A voice cries out in the desert: Prepare the way of the Lord.

Jo 1,23 : I am the voice that cries in the wilderness: Straighten the way of the Lord.

– Jesus is the Way because he reveals the Father to his disciples and to the Church:

Mt 7:13 : Enter through the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction.

Jn 1:18 : No one has ever seen God. The only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, has revealed it.

Jn 12:45 : And whoever sees me sees the one who sent me.

Jo 14,6 : I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.

Jn 14,9-10 : I have been with you for so long and you have not known me, Philip! He who has seen me has also seen the Father.

Heb 10:20 : By the new and living way which he opened to us through the veil, that is, the way of his own body.

Acts 18:25 : He was instructed in the way of the Lord, he spoke fervently.
