Wisdom

– In a religious sense, it is an attribute of God revealed to men and a gift of God to those who ask for it:

1Kings 3:28 : Hearing the judgment pronounced by the king, […] it was clear that he was inspired by divine wisdom.

Es 7:25 : And thou, Ezra, according to the wisdom of thy God which was given thee.

Jr 51,15 : He established the world with his wisdom, and in his understanding he stretched out the heavens.

Dan 2:20 : Blessed be the name of God from everlasting to everlasting, for wisdom and power belong to him!

Rom 11:33 : O abyss of wealth, wisdom and knowledge in God!

1Cor 1:24 : But for the elect – whether Jews or Greeks – power from God and wisdom from God.

1Cor 2,7 : We preach the wisdom of God, mysterious and secret, which God predetermined before time existed.

Eph 3:10 : The heavenly powers can know, through the Church, the infinite diversity of divine wisdom.

– He is sometimes presented in the Bible as a person who thinks, speaks and acts:

Pr 1,20-33 : Wisdom cries out in the streets, raises her voice in the square.

Pr 8,1.22-23 : Does not Wisdom cry out and intelligence raise her voice?

Wis 7,22 : Indeed, there is in her an intelligent, holy, single, multiple, subtle, mobile, penetrating, pure spirit.

Wis 9,4 : Give me the wisdom that shares your throne, and do not reject me as unworthy to be one of your children.

– Is present in the creation:

Job 28,1-28 : But where is wisdom found? Where is the place of intelligence?

Pr 8,22-23 : The Lord created me, the firstfruits of his works, from the beginning, before the beginning of the earth.

Eclo 1,4 : Wisdom was created before all things, prudent intelligence existed before the centuries!

– It is therefore eternal, omniscient and omnipotent:

Eclo 24,9 : And I went through all the earth. I ruled over all peoples.

Wis 7,23-24 : Wisdom is more agile than all movement, it crosses and penetrates everything, thanks to its purity.

– He is the image of God himself and acts in the world:

Pr 8.30 : With him I was like a workman, playing all the time before him.

Wis 7:21 , 25-26 : Because it was wisdom, creator of all things, that taught me.

Wis 8,1.5-6 : She extends her vigor from one end of the world to the other and governs all things with happiness.

Eclo 24,6 : I caused an unfailing light to rise in the sky, and covered the whole earth like a cloud.

– It is granted by God to those who ask for it in prayer:

Ex 31,6 : And I put wisdom in the heart of all intelligent men, so that they may carry out everything.

1Kings 3:9-10 : Give your servant a wise heart, able to judge your people and discern between good and evil.

1 Kings 5:9 : God gave Solomon wisdom, a penetrating intelligence and a spirit of such vast vision.

1Kings 10,6-7 : And he said to the king: “It is true what I heard about you and your wisdom in my country”.

1Chr 22:12 : May the Lord grant you wisdom and understanding when he makes you king over Israel.

2Ch 1,10 : Deign therefore to grant me wisdom and understanding, so that I may know how to conduct myself.

Pr 2:6: For the Lord is the giver of wisdom, and from his mouth proceed knowledge and prudence.

Wis 9: That by your word you created all things, and that by your wisdom you formed man.

Ecclesiastes 2:25: To those who are pleasing to Him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and joy.

Eclo 37,21 : An evil word upsets the heart; four things come from it: good and evil, life and death.

Eclo 51,13-14 : Thou hast exalted my dwelling upon the earth, and I begged thee when death approached me.

Dan 2,18-21 : Blessed be the name of God from everlasting to everlasting, for wisdom and power belong to him!

Acts 7:10 : He delivered him out of all his troubles and gave him grace and wisdom before Pharaoh.

Jas 1,5-6 : If any of you need wisdom, let him ask God.

– It is opposed to those who seek it for themselves:

Job 5:13 : He catches the wise in their own tricks, and the plans of the crafty are premature.

Job 11:12 : Faced with this, a foolish person can come to his senses, and an ass become a human creature.

Eccl 8,8-9 : Man is not master of his breath of life, nor is he able to retain it.

Mt 11:25 : I bless you, Father, […] because you have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to little ones.

1Cor 1,19.25.27 : I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will nullify the prudence of the prudent.

1Cor 2,4-5 : My speech and my preaching were far from the persuasive eloquence of wisdom.

1Cor 3,19-20 : Because the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God.

2Cor 1,12 : Not according to the spirit of wisdom of the world, but with the help of God’s grace.

Jas 3,14-15 : This is not the wisdom that comes from above, but it is an earthly, human, diabolical wisdom.

– Creation speaks of the wisdom of God (wisdom manifests itself in the works of God):

Ps 103 :24 : Lord, how manifold are your works! Made, all, with wisdom.

Ps 135,5 : He created the heavens with wisdom, for his mercy is eternal.

Pr 3:19 : It was by wisdom that the Lord created the earth, it was with intelligence that he formed the heavens.

Ecclesiastes 42: 15–43 :33 : The sun beholds all things it gives light; the work of the Lord is full of his glory.

Jr 10,12 : He alone created the earth by his power and consolidated the world by his wisdom.

Rom 11:33-34 : O abyss of wealth, wisdom and knowledge in God!

– And proclaims it at every moment:

Deut 4,5-6 : See, I have taught you laws and ordinances, as the Lord my God commanded me.

Job 28,12-28 : But where is wisdom found? Where is the place of intelligence?

Ps 110 :10 : The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; wise are those who worship him.

Pr 24,7 : Wisdom is too high for a fool; at the gate of the city, he does not open his mouth.

Ecclesiastes 7:19 : Wisdom gives the wise more strength than ten warlords.

Ecclesiastes 9: 13-14 : I also saw this example of wisdom under the sun, and it seemed great to me.

Jer 9:23 : But whoever wants to boast, let him boast that he has intelligence and that he knows that I am his Lord.

Jas 3:17 : Wisdom, however, which comes from above, is first pure, then peaceable.
