Brothers

– Can mean those born of the same parents:

Gen 4:9 : The Lord said to Cain: “Where is Abel your brother?”. Cain replied, “I don’t know!”

– From the same father or from the same mother:

Gen 42:15 : As Pharaoh lives, you shall not leave this place until your youngest brother comes.

Judges 9 :5: He went to his father’s house in Ephra, and killed his brothers on a stone.

– The relatives:

Gen 13 :8 : Abram said to Lot: “I beg you, let there be no discord between me and you, nor between our herdsmen, for we are brothers”.

– Those belonging to the same tribe:

2Sam 19:12 : And the king heard what was being said in all Israel. King David sent the priests Sadoc and Abiathar.

– To the same people:

Ex 2,11 : One day when he went out by chance to go to his brothers, he witnessed their hard work.

– Those belonging to the same human nature:

Gen 9 :5 : And from the man (who kills) his brother, I will demand an account of the man’s soul.

Mt 5:22 : But I say to you, everyone who is angry with his brother will be punished by the judges.

Mt 7:3: Why do you look at the chaff that is in your brother’s eye and do not see the log that is in yours?

Heb 2:11 : So that the sanctifier and the sanctified may form one whole. Therefore, (Jesus) does not hesitate to call them his brothers.

– Those who, reborn through faith and baptism, invoke the same heavenly Father:

Mt 6,8-15 : Do not imitate them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

John 1:13 : Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

John 3 :5: Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever is not born again of water and the Spirit will not be able to enter the Kingdom of God.

Acts 10:23 : Peter sent them in and hosted them. The next day he got up and left with them and some of the brothers.

Col 1,2 : To the brothers in Christ, saints and faithful of Colossae: Grace to you and peace from God our Father!

1Jn 3,9s : Whoever is born of God does not sin […]; and cannot sin, because he was born of God.

1Jn 5:1 : Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God.

– As brothers of Jesus are indicated, in the gospels, James, Joseph, Judas, Simon:

Mk 6:3: Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon?

– However, they are not brothers in the strict sense, children of the same parents. The evangelists claim that Jesus was the only son of the Virgin Mary:

Mk 6:3: Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon?

Jn 19:26s : When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her, he said to his mother: “Woman, behold your son”.

– Nor is there any reason to suppose that Joseph had other children from a previous marriage. On the other hand, the word cousin does not exist in either Hebrew or Aramaic. The brothers of Jesus had another mother than Mary Most Holy. The gospel of Matthew mentions, among the women present at the crucifixion of Christ, Mary, mother of James and Joseph:

Mt 27:56 : Among them were Mary Magdalene and Mary, mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

– This Maria is the wife of Cléofas. It is probably a sister of Mary, mother of Jesus. Therefore, Mary and her husband Cleopas were the parents of James and Joseph. They had yet another son by the name of Judas, who, in his letter, is said to be the brother of James. This James can only be the son of Clophas, as the other James was the brother of John the Evangelist, who was the son of Zebedee. Simon remains. Aegesippus also gives him as the son of Clophas. His parents are not listed. Bear in mind that Our Lady is called the mother of Jesus and never “mother of the brothers of Jesus”. If Mary had any other child, Jesus would not have entrusted her to John, son of Zebedee. The family of Nazareth appears with only three people: Jesus, Mary and Joseph. At age 12, Jesus goes to the temple exclusively with Mary and Joseph:

John 19:25 : By the cross of Jesus were standing his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clophas, and Mary Magdalene.
