The Bible teaches us that loving and serving our brothers and sisters is an expression of our love for God. In Romans 12:9-13, the apostle Paul urges us to love without hypocrisy, be devoted to one another in brotherly love, and practice hospitality.
Loving without hypocrisy means loving genuinely, without expecting anything in return. When we love our brothers and sisters in this way, we are following the example of Jesus, who loved mankind to the point of giving his life for them (John 15:13). We must have sincere love for our brothers and sisters and be willing to help them in their needs, without expecting anything in return.
To be devoted to one another in brotherly love means to be devoted and loyal to our fellow believers. We must be concerned about their well-being and be ready to help them in all circumstances. We must be patient and tolerant with those who have weaknesses and faults, helping them to grow in their faith.
Practicing hospitality means welcoming others into our homes and lives, as Jesus did with his disciples and with others he encountered in his ministry. We must be generous in sharing our things with others and welcoming them with open arms, as if they were members of our own family.
By serving our brothers with love and devotion, we are serving God. As Jesus said in Matthew 25:40, “Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” Loving and serving our brothers and sisters is a practical way to show our love for God and live according to his will.
