– Due to its geographical position (the Sinai peninsula borders the Red Sea southwest of Palestine), the Israelites emigrated there in search of food and refuge, when persecution and famine overcame them:
1 Kings 5:1 : Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms, from the Euphrates to the land of the Philistines and to the border of Egypt.
2Ch 9:26 : He ruled over all the kings, from the Euphrates to the land of the Philistines and the border of Egypt.
2Ch 26,8 : The Ammonites paid tribute to him and his fame was strengthened in such a way that it extended to the ends of Egypt.
Gn 12,10-11 : However, a famine occurred in the region; and the misery being great, Abram went down to Egypt.
Gen 42,1–46,27 : Jacob, knowing that there was wheat in Egypt, said to his sons: “Why are you looking at one another?”.
1 Kings 11:17-18 :40 : Adad fled with the Edomites, his father’s servants, towards Egypt.
1 Kings 12: 2 : This news reached Jeroboam in Egypt, where he was still a refugee.
Jr 26,21-22 : Uriah, informed of what was happening, was afraid and fled, taking refuge in Egypt.
– For four hundred years the Israelites remained there, until Yahweh delivered them through Moses:
Gen 15:13 : And that in that land they will be enslaved and oppressed for four hundred years.
Ex 12:40 : The stay of the Israelites in Egypt lasted four hundred and thirty years.
Ex 1–14 : These are the names of the children of Israel who came to Egypt with Jacob, each with his family.

– Sometimes he was an ally of Israel, sometimes he was an enemy:

Hos 7:11 : Ephraim is like a naive dove without intelligence; appeal to Egypt, go to Assyria…
Hos 13:4 : And yet I am the Lord your God from the out of Egypt.
Amos 3:1 : “Hear, O Israelites, the oracle that the Lord pronounced against you […]”, he said, “which I brought out of Egypt”.
Zech 10,10-11 : I will bring them back from the land of Egypt, I will bring them out of Assyria and I will bring them to the land of Gilead.
– Matthew sees in Jesus’ flight to Egypt the fulfillment of Hosea’s prophecy:
Hos 11 :1 : Israel was still a child, and I loved him already, and out of Egypt I called my son.
