Praise to God

– The Latin word from which praise derives ( laus , praise) also has in its concept merit, value, glory, honor, renown, esteem and consideration, demonstration of gratitude, thanks, praise. All these meanings properly address God:

Ps 78,6.8-9.13 : Rather, I unleashed your wrath on […] the kingdoms that do not call on your name.

Ps 88,2 : Indeed, you said: “Kindness is an eternal building”. Your faithfulness established in heaven.

Ps 95,1-2 : Sing a new song to the Lord. Sing to the Lord, all the earth.

Ps 102,1-2 : Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

Ps 104,1-2 : Celebrate the Lord, proclaim his name, proclaim his works among the nations.

Is 6:3 : Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God of hosts! The whole earth proclaims his glory!

Is 12,4-5 : Praise the Lord, invoke his name, make his works known among the peoples.

Jr 31,7 : Shout for joy because of Jacob. Acclaim the first of nations.

– There are passages from Sacred Scripture, from the AT and from the New, in which gratitude is evident:

Es 10,11 : Now, be aware of your fault before the Lord, the God of our fathers, and do his will.

Ps 33:2-3 : Celebrate the Lord with the zither, sing hymns to him on the ten-stringed harp.

Ps 34,17-18 : I will publicly give thanks to you, I will praise you in the presence of the crowd.

Ps 68,31-32 : I will sing a song of praise to the name of the Lord, and I will glorify him with a hymn of gratitude.

Ps 70,5-6 : For you, O my God, are my hope. Lord, from my youth you have been my trust.

Psalm 108 : 30-31 : I will praise the Lord highly, and I will praise him in the midst of the multitude.

– In others, emphasis is placed on glorification:

1Chr 16,4.8-9 : David placed Levites before the ark of the Lord […] who invoked, celebrated and praised the Lord.

Ps 21:24 : You who fear the Lord, praise him; all you descendants of Jacob acclaim him.

Is 42,10-42 : Sing a new song to the Lord, sing his praises from the end of the world.

Lc 17,15-16 : One of them, seeing himself healed, returned, glorifying God with a loud voice.

Acts 11:18 : After they had heard these words, they were silent and gave glory to God.

Acts 13:48 : These words filled the Gentiles who glorified the word of the Lord with joy.

– The goodness and faithfulness of God towards his people are praised:

1Sm 2,1-2 : My heart rejoices in the Lord, my strength is lifted up in him.

Ps 29,5-6 : You faithful ones of the Lord, sing his glory, give thanks to his holy name.

Ps 33,4-5 : Glorify the Lord with me, together let us exalt his name.

Ps 144,8-9 : The Lord is merciful and compassionate, generous and full of goodness.

Is 25,4-5 : For you are refuge for the weak, refuge for the poor in his affliction.

Mt 9:31 : But as soon as they left, they spread their fame throughout the whole region.

Lk 1,46-55.67-68 : And Mary said: My soul glorifies the Lord.

Lc 2,14.20.28-29.38 : Glory to God in the highest heavens and on earth peace to men, objects of benevolence.

Lc 5,26 : All were transported with enthusiasm and glorified God.

Lk 7:16 : Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying: “A great prophet has arisen among us”.

Lk 13:13 : He laid his hands on her and instantly she straightened up, glorifying God.

Lc 17,15-16 : One of them, seeing himself healed, returned, glorifying God with a loud voice.

Lk 18:43 : He saw and followed Jesus, glorifying God. Seeing this, all the people gave glory to God.

Lk 19,37-38 : The entire crowd of disciples, filled with joy, began to praise God with a loud voice.

Lk 23:47 : When the centurion saw what was happening, he gave glory to God and said: “Indeed, this man was righteous”.

Luke 24:53 : And they remained in the temple, praising and blessing God.

Romans 15 :9 : As for the pagans, they only glorify God because of his mercy.

Rom 16:25-26: To him who is able to establish you, according to my Gospel, in the preaching of Jesus Christ.

– Because of the gestures of mercy and love towards us in creation:

Psalm 8 : O Lord our God, how glorious is your name in all the earth!

Ps 28,3-11 : The voice of the Lord is heard over the waters! The God of greatness rumbled: the Lord thundered over the immense waters!

Ps 88 :2 : I will sing of the goodness of the Lord forever; my mouth will publish your faithfulness from generation to generation.

Ps 95,3-4 : Proclaim his glory to the nations, his wonders to all peoples.

Ps 103,1-2 : Bless the Lord, O my soul! Lord, my God, you are immensely great!

Ps 104,1-2 : Celebrate the Lord, proclaim his name, proclaim his works among the nations.

Ps 105:1.9-10 : Praise the Lord for he is good, for his mercy endures forever.

Ps 116 :2: For boundless is his mercy towards us, and eternal is the faithfulness of the Lord.

Ps 144,1-2 : O my God, my king, I will glorify you, and I will bless your name for ever and ever.
