Resurrection

– God owns life:

Deut 32:39 : Recognize now: I alone, I alone am God, and there is no other besides me.

1Sm 2,6 : The Lord gives death and life, brings down to the dwelling of the dead and from there returns.

– Can preserve from the tomb and deliver from the dwelling of the dead:

Ps 15,10-11 : For you will not abandon my soul in the dwelling of the dead.

Ps 102 :4: It is he who saves your life from death, and crowns you with goodness and mercy.

– And call to life the dead:

1Kings 17,17-22 : Some time later, the son of this woman, the owner of the house, fell ill and his illness was so serious that he died.

2Kings 4,33-34 : He went in, closed the door behind him and the dead man and prayed to the Lord.

2 Kings 13:21 : Now it happened that a group of people were burying a man.

– He gives life back to his people – by this is meant the spiritual resurrection and the return from exile:

Is 26,9 : My soul desires you during the night and my spirit seeks you from the morning.

Is 66,22-23 : Just as the new heavens and the new earth that I am going to create must stand before me.

Ez 37,11-12 : Son of man, these bones are the whole race of Israelites.

Hos 6,1-2 : He will give us life again in two days; on the third day he will raise us up.

– The resurrection of the bodies is mentioned in some OT texts:

Is 25,8 : And he will make death disappear forever. The Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces.

Is 53,11 : After enduring the torments in his person, he will rejoice to know him to the point of ecstasy.

Ps 72,26-27 : My heart and my flesh can already fail, the rock of my heart and my eternal inheritance is God.

Dan 12:2 : Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth will awaken, some to eternal life.

– Prophecies of the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Ps 15:10 : For you will not abandon my soul to the netherworld.

Mt 12:40 : So the Son of Man will remain three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Mt 16:21 : Jesus began to tell his disciples that he needed to go to Jerusalem and suffer a lot.

Mk 14:28 : But after I rise again, I will precede you to Galilee.

Jn 2:19 : Jesus answered them: “I destroyed this temple, and I will raise it up in three days”.

– The fact of the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Mt 28,1-9 : Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.

Mk 16,1-8 : After Saturday, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices to anoint Jesus.

Lc 24,1-12 : They found the stone rolled away from the opening of the tomb.

Jn 20,1-8 : They took the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they put him!

1Cor 15,1-4 : I remind you, brothers, the Gospel that I preached to you, and which you have accepted, in which you stand firm.

– The resurrection of Jesus is announced to the people:

Acts 2,14-36 : God raised this Jesus, of which we are all witnesses.

Acts 3,11-26 : As he kept close to Peter and John, a crowd of onlookers flocked to them.

Acts 4,1-22 : Displeased because they taught the people and announced, in the person of Jesus, the resurrection of the dead.

1Cor 15,1-11 : I remind you, brothers, the Gospel that I preached to you, and which you have accepted, in which you stand firm.

2Tm 2,8 : Remember Jesus Christ, descended from the stock of David and raised from the dead.

– And it is made explicit in successive passages, which stress how glorious it will be for the good:

2Mc 7,9.11.14 : Cursed, you snatch away our present life, but the King of the universe will raise us up to an eternal life.

2Mc 12,43-44 : Beautiful and holy way of acting, resulting from his belief in the resurrection!

Wis 2,23–3,8 : Now, God created man for immortality, and made him in the image of his own nature.

– Jesus is risen:

Mt 28,6 : He is not here: he has risen as he said.

Mk 16,6 : Do not be afraid. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen, he is no longer here.

Lc 24,6 : He is not here, but is risen.

Jn 20:2 : He ran and said to Simon Peter and the other disciple whom Jesus loved: “They have taken the Lord from the tomb”.

Acts 2,23-31 : You killed him, crucifying him by the hands of the wicked. But God raised him.

Acts 4:10 : It was in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, but whom God raised from the dead.

Acts 17:31 : He gave as a guarantee to all the fact that he had raised him from the dead.

1Cor 15,4 : He was buried, and rose on the third day, according to the Scriptures.

– Proved his resurrection with several appearances.

– Individuals:

Mt 28,9-10 : At that moment, Jesus stood before them and said: “Save!”.

Mk 16:9.12 : Having risen in the morning, on the first day of the week he appeared first to Mary.

Lk 24,14-15.26-27 : They were talking to each other about everything that had happened.

Mt 28,16-17 : The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain that Jesus had assigned them.

– Jesus is the resurrection and the life:

Jn 11:25 : Jesus said to him: “I am the resurrection and the life”.

– To all your followers:

Acts 24:15 : I have hope in God, as they also hope, that there will be a resurrection.

Rom 6:4.8 : So that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too might live a new life.

Rom 8:11 : If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you.

Col 1:18 : He is the Beginning, the firstborn from among the dead and therefore has the first place in all things.

1Th 4:14 : If we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who died in him.

– Our resurrection is a sign of future glory:

Rom 8:18-25 : Therefore, creation eagerly awaits the manifestation of the sons of God.

1Cor 15,35-58 : But, someone will say, how are the dead raised? And with what body do they come?

1Th 4, 13-18 : Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant of anything about the dead, so that you do not grieve.

– The resurrection of Jesus is an argument for our own resurrection:

1Cor 15,20-23 : Christ was raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who died!

Jn 11:25 : I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, even if he dies, will live.

– Faith in the resurrection is essential for the Christian:
