Sadducees

– Members of a Jewish sect corresponding to the priestly families and the wealthy class, who followed only the written law:

Mt 3:7 : When he saw that many of the Pharisees and Sadducees were coming to his baptism.

Acts 5:17 : Then the high priest and his supporters (that is, the sect of the Sadducees) arose, filled with envy.

Acts 23:6 : Paul knew that one part of the Sanhedrin was Sadducees and the other Pharisees.

– They did not accept the resurrection of the dead or the existence of angels:

Mt 22,23-24 : On that same day, the Sadducees, who denied the resurrection.

Mark 12:18-19 : Now the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him.

Acts 23 :8: For the Sadducees say there is no resurrection, neither angels nor spirits.

Mt 16,6.11-12 : Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

– They opposed Jesus and, together with priests and Pharisees, plotted his death:

Mt 21,23-24 : The chief priests and the elders of the people […] asked him: “By what right do you do this?”.

Mt 26,14-15 : Then one of the Twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests.

Jn 11:47 : The high priests and the Pharisees convened a council and said: What shall we do? This man multiplies miracles.

Jo 18,1–19,15 : Judas then took the cohort and the guards on duty for the high priests and the Pharisees.

– They persecuted the nascent Church until the year 70 AD, when they disappeared:

Acts 4:1 : While they were speaking to the people, the priests, the head of the temple and the Sadducees came.

Acts 5:17 : Then the high priest and his supporters (that is, the sect of the Sadducees) arose, filled with envy.
