Tongue

– Need to curb it:

Ps 33:14 : Guard your tongue from evil, and your lips from deceitful words.

Eph 4:29 : Let no bad word come out of your mouth, but only what is useful for building up.

Eph 5,3s : No obscenities, foolish or frivolous conversations, because such things are not suitable.

Col 4,6 : May your conversations always be kind, seasoned with salt, and know how to respond to each one properly.

Jas 1,19.26 : Every man should be quick to listen, but slow to speak and slow to anger.

Jas 3,2-10 : If anyone does not fall by word, this is a perfect man, able to bridle his whole body.

– Bad tongues:

Ps 51,4 : You continually plot destruction; your tongue is razor sharp, weaver of deceit.

Ps 56 :5: Their teeth are like spears and arrows, their tongues like sharp swords.

Ps 139,4 : Who sharpen the tongue like a serpent, who hide viper venom in their lips.

Pr 18,8 : The words of the informer are like sweets: they penetrate to the entrails.

Eclo 9,25 : A great talker is a terrible thing in the city; the man of reckless conversations becomes hateful.

Eclo 28,21-30 : The lash produces a wound, but an evil tongue breaks the bones.

Eclo 37,21 : An evil word upsets the heart; four things come from it: good and evil, life and death.

1Cor 15,33 : Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals”.

– It is convenient to know how to shut up:

Job 13:5 : If you could keep silent, you would be considered wise.

Pr 10,19 : Sin cannot be lacking in a stream of words; he who moderates his lips is a prudent man.

Pr 17.27s : He who measures his words has knowledge; the calm in spirit is an intelligent man.

Pr 29:20 : You have seen a man rash in speech: there is more hope in a fool than in him.

Eclo 20,5-8 : There are those who keep silent and are considered wise, and those who become hateful for intemperance in speaking.

Eclo 21,29ff : The heart of fools is in their mouth, the mouth of the wise is in their heart.

– The gift of tongues: this is a very widespread gift among Christians at the beginning of the Church. According to this gift, under the action of the Holy Spirit, the believer spoke a language that was previously unknown to him, or else began to praise God in terms unintelligible to the other believers. Other faithful, however, also under the influence of the Holy Spirit, could interpret this language:

Mk 16:17 : These miracles will accompany those who believe: they will drive out demons in my name, they will speak with new tongues.

Acts 2 :4 : They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues.

Acts 10:46 : For they heard them speak in other tongues and glorify God.

Acts 19 :6 : The Holy Spirit descended on them, and they spoke in strange tongues and prophesied.

1Cor 12,8ss : To one is given a word of wisdom by the Spirit; to another, a word of science.
