Anointed

– In Greek khristós , anointed one. Jesus is the Christ of God:

Mt 16:16 : Simon Peter replied: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!”.

Mk 14:61 : The high priest asked him again: “Are you the Christ, the Son of the blessed God?”.

Lc 2,11 : Today in the City of David a Savior has been born to you, who is Christ the Lord.

Jn 17:3 : Now, eternal life is that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

– The king was the Lord’s anointed:

1Sm 10,1-2 : The Lord gives you this anointing so that you may be head of his inheritance.

1Sm 11,6 : Hearing this, the Spirit of the Lord took over Saul and he was enraged.

1Sm 16:13 : Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers.

1Sm 19,23 : The spirit of God also seized him and Saul was seized with trance all the way until he reached Naiot.

1Sm 24,7 : God keep me from ever committing this crime, stretching out my hand against the Lord’s anointed!

1Sm 26,9.11.16 : “Do not kill him”, replied David. “Who could with impunity stretch out his hand against the Lord’s anointed?”

2Sm 1,14-15 : David said to him: “How could you not be afraid to raise your hand against the Lord’s anointed to kill him?”.

2Sam 19:22 : Abishai […] took the floor: “Should not Shemei be put to death, because he cursed the Lord’s anointed?”

Ps 19,7 : I already know that the Lord reserved victory for his anointed, and heard him from the top of his sanctuary.

– And other consecrated persons:

Gen 28:18 : Jacob took the stone on which his head had rested and set it up as a pillar, pouring oil on it.

Gen 35:14 : In the same place where God spoke to him, Jacob erected a pillar on which he made a drink offering and poured oil.

Exodus 29:36 : You shall slaughter a bull as an atoning sacrifice for sin;[…] and you shall anoint it to consecrate it.

Exodus 30:26 : With it you shall anoint the tent of meeting and the ark of the covenant.

Ex 40:10 : Thou shalt anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; by virtue of your consecration.
