Commandments

– For the Jews, they refer to the ten precepts revealed by God to Moses and, through him, to all the people of Israel:

Ex 20,2-17 : I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

Deut 5,6-21 : I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

Deut 10 :4: The Lord engraved on the new stones […] the ten words he had spoken to you on the mountain.

Eclo 6,37 : Concentrate your thought on the precepts of God, be assiduous in the meditation of his commandments.

Br 3,9 : Listen, Israel, to the commandments of life; meditate, that thou mayest learn prudence.

– And also for Christians:

Mt 5,21,27,31,33,38,43 : You shall not kill, but whoever kills will be punished by the judgment of the court.

Mt 19,17-18 : Only God is good. If you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.

Mk 10:19 : You know the commandments: do not kill; do not commit adultery; do not steal; do not bear false witness.

Lk 10,25-27 : A doctor of the Law and, to put him to the test, asked: “Teacher, what must I do to possess eternal life?”.

Acts 7:38 : This is he who was among the people gathered in the desert, and with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai.

Romans 7 :8, 12 : Because without the law sin was dead.

Rm 13,8-9 : Do not owe anyone […]; because he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the whole law.

1Jn 2 :4 : Anyone who claims to know him and does not keep his commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him.

– Jesus summarizes them in the great commandment:

Mt 22,34-40 : You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.

Mk 12:28-34 : “Which is the first of all the commandments?”

Lk 10,25-28 : A doctor of the Law and, to put him to the test, asked: “Teacher, what must I do to possess eternal life?”.
