Kidneys

– From the Latin renes , through the verb renidere , to laugh, to be radiant with joy, they were for the Jews of that time not only the seat of joy, but also of pain, understanding and will:

Ps 25: 2 : Search me, O Lord, and prove me; search my kidneys and my heart.

– Appear in biblical translations only as heart:

Ps 72,21 : When I was exasperated and my heart was troubled.

– At other times, the two words together, especially when speaking of God’s knowledge of the interior of his creatures:

Ps 7:10 : Put an end to the wickedness of the wicked and uphold justice, O God of justice, who searches hearts and minds.

Ps 16:3: You can search my heart, visit it by night, test it by fire.

Ps 138,23 : Search me, Lord, to know my heart; try me and know my thoughts.

Pr 21:2 : But it is up to the Lord to weigh hearts.

Jer 11:20 : But you, Lord of hosts, are the righteous judge, who probe the kidneys and the hearts.

Jer 17:10 : I, however, who am the Lord, search the hearts and scrutinize the kidneys.

Jr 20,12 : Lord, God of hosts, you who search the righteous, and who scrutinize the kidneys and the hearts.
