– Sprout, bud. This word is used symbolically by the prophets to designate that the Messiah would be a descendant of King David:

Is 11 :1 : A shoot will come out of the stump of Jesse, and a sprout will sprout from his roots.

Is 9,1-6 : The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.

Jer 23 : 5 : The days will come – declares the Lord – when I will make a righteous shoot to sprout out of David.

Jer 33:15 : And in those days and in those times I will make a righteous shoot to be born of David.

Zech 3,8 : Because they are people of omen: for, behold, I will bring my servant Branch.

Zech 6,12 : Behold the man, whose name is Branch; something will germinate from his lineage.

– In the NT these prophecies are fulfilled:

Mt 9:27 : As Jesus departed from there, two blind men followed him, shouting: “Son of David, have mercy on us!”.

Mt 21,9 : Hosanna to the son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

Lk 1:32 : He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.

Lc 2,4 : Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the City of David.

Lk 6:3 : Jesus replied: “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry?”

Jn 7:42 : Does not the Scripture say: The Christ will come from the family of David?

Acts 2:25 : I always saw the Lord near me, for he is at my right hand, so that I should not be shaken.

Acts 15:16 : After this I will return, and will rebuild the tabernacle of David which fell. And I will rebuild its ruins.

Romans 1 :3 : Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, a descendant of David.

Rev 5 :5 : The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the descendant of David who prevailed to open the book and its seven seals.

Rev 22:16 : I am the root and descendant of David, the bright and morning star.
